Today I leave Koh Chang behind and finally return to the “city”. A long trek from the hotel to the ferry, the ferry to Trat, Trat to the airport, the aiport to Bangkok and finally to my hotel of choice, the Great Residence. As you know, Bangkok is filled with amazing hotels including the Oriental, oft voted as the best in the world. But I arrived at 6pm and am leaving tomorrow morning so am staying near the airport and have gone for this one, not quite the Oriental….. It’s a modern little hotel. It’s a stylish room with aircon, free wifi, breakfast included – all for £19 including car transport from and back to the airport. And I know the Oriental has a view of the Chao Praya river but I am sitting outside in the warm with an equally interesting transport view – the elevated airport to city motorway. A bit like having your tea at the side of the A4…..
As usual, Bangkok Airways were great and managed to serve everyone with hot spring rolls on the 40 minute flight. The airport in Trat feels like toytown, you drive through a rubber and pineapple plantation to get to it – it’s tiny with open huts for check in, departure lounge etc., and a nice little road train to take you to the brightly coloured plane – yet another propeller job!
