Old Year's Eve (31 December 2010)

New Years' Eve's (called Old Year's Eve in Bequia) seem to be coming around increasingly quickly, seemingly much more frequently than summers. Neither of us are big New Year's Eve people but Bequia has a tradition of street partying and fireworks over Admiralty Bay so we just had to give it a go.

We'd got a table at the Frangipani restaurant on the Belmont walkway and it was jumping. Steaks, salad and rum punches kept us fuelled and whilst steel bands usually leave Ant wanting to stick needles in his eyes, this bunch were cool and kept going all night. The dancing was frequently interrupted by downpours and the swell made for some interesting waves.

Midnight fireworks were fun (see video) as were the red flares from the yachts. We then headed into town for a bit of a street bop. Friendly happy vibe but we were knackered and so we happily threw ourselves into Alvins pickup at 1am. Happy New Year everybody.
